Tuenti social network review - a Spanish Facebook or Spain's social network
While there are some members scattered across the globe, Tuenti is primarily a Spanish social network. It seems that well over 90% of the traffic to this popular social site originates in Spain. This site is a private social network geared toward students and a younger demographic. This network was founded in 2006, and it is often referred to as the “Spanish Facebook", and it is definitely geared toward the Spanish audience. It will let new members from other nations join. While interesting because of its exclusivity, you may want to know if Tuenti has any other draw to make it worth your while. The following review should help you be able to decide.

The Review

The super exclusive Tuenti isn’t terribly unique when compared to other social sites. Once you get started, it seems terribly familiar, as it looks a lot like Facebook. The site features an easy to use minimalist layout done up in blue and white. Most of the action happens on the center of the screen, but two side bars, as with Facebook, help you navigate this social network. The site, meaning “your identity” lets users set up their own profiles. Users get to upload and share photos and connect with friends. It features video and link sharing as well as a chat application. Users can also create events, making it even more like Facebook. This site really seems to be a rip off of Facebook and the other social sites that grew up around it. It differentiates itself by being from Spain first and foremost. The other way it sets itself apart is the way it chose for less obvious advertising, a choice that it very ironically shares with Facebook. Tuenti is primarily aimed at the Spanish market, but the folks running the site want to take it slow. Sights are set on greater international expansion, but this progress is prudently slow. The site is available in languages outside of Spanish, most notably, English. This site gets kudos for not over-expanding. It also needs to be applauded for keeping things minimal and easy to use. At the same time, the network’s lack of originality is almost troubling. Since “Spain’s Facebook” looks so much like the Facebook that the rest of the world has, many are left scratching their heads wondering why Spain needs its own version in the form of Tuenti.

Conclusion

Tuenti is a solid, well designed easy to use site. The biggest problem with this Spanish social network is that it seems much too much like Facebook, and unfortunately, it bares resemblance to an older, outmoded version of the popular social site. If you live in Spain, definitely get on Tuenti as it will be a great way to connect with many people you know, but you should also get on Facebook. While Tuenti is popular now, who knows how long people will keep accepting a copy before they want to move along to the real thing.
